I saw a news from "The China Post" on last Saturday; the front page was remarked about "U.S. Beef Imports Eased". Actually, it's an translated assignment from Journalism English. When I read the newspaper,I was shocked by paragraph of The China Post as follows:
"At present, Taiwan only allows imports of U.S. boneless beef that contain no SRMS and from cattle younger than 30 months. Under the terms of the new accord, U.S. bone-in beef, ground beef, intestines and processed beef that have not been contaminated with SRMs will also be allowed to enter Taiwan." -- from Front page of "The China Post", Oct 24, 2009.
I can't believe that our premier said- "he respects experts' decision on beef imports," But according to the past experience and research, U.S. beef still have potential danger in Mad Cow Disease. It's a kind of contagious disease, and it can't be destroied in high temperature; therefore, how to know U.S. beef has not been contaminated with SRMs? How to ensure the safty and persuade us to believe that all of Taiwanese consumers will not swallow the infective cow. I am really wondering and worried about it. This is because I think that it's a political consideration, if the official will not eat U.S. beef, how they could ask his people to swallow it? Please don't be a foolish person!
